Chapter Forty-Three
Adriana had not talked, danced, or laughed this much in years. Just the feel of Michaelâs hands in hers sent tingles of excitement up her arms and into her neck. How could this be happening? She was married. Before Jian Carlo she had never even kissed a boy, let aloneâ¦
She let go of his hands and twirled, trying to rub away the tingles.
âAre you cold?â he asked.
âWhat? Não. Of course not.â
It had to be eighty degrees. Why was she shivering?
âYes, you are. Come here.â
He wrapped his arms around her and rubbed her back, creating shocks of pleasure. The silky rayon of his shirt against her skin, the hardness of his chest, the tiniest adjustments of flesh against flesh stimulated her beyond sanity.
Breathe, Adriana. Breathe.
Michael stopped rubbing and gave her arms a comforting squeeze. âThere. Youâre all warmed up. Isnât that better?â
She suppressed a laugh. Better than what? He had stopped rubbing and pressing, but now she had to look at those kissable lips.
She forced a smile and nodded, not trusting what her rebellious mouth might do if she opened it to speak, then pried away her gaze and looked up into his blue-gray eyes. Big mistake. Their intensity made her lips quiver. She leaned forward for a kiss then pulled back a moment before their lips met. No matter how much her body objected, her mind was still in command. Married women did not kiss men who were not their husbands; no matter how enticing they might be.
âThe fireworks will start soon,â she said. âWe should head for the water and find a good place to watch.â
She headed for the shore, emboldened by her practical words and shaken by romantic notions of Michael sweeping her into his arms and forcing her into a kiss. She walked faster. Just because Jian Carlo had ditched her on New Yearâs Eve did not give her the right to break their marriage vows. He was not kissing another woman; he was entertaining distributors. Isnât that what he had told her this morning?
And the morning before?
